Jayakwadi Dam

One of Maharashtra's largest earthen dams on the Godavari, with a bird sanctuary on its reservoir.

Jayakwadi Dam on the Godavari River near Paithan, around 55 km from Aurangabad, impounds the Nath Sagar reservoir, one of the largest irrigation reservoirs in Maharashtra. The backwaters form a major wetland bird sanctuary across 30 small islands, attracting over 200 species including flamingos, brahminy ducks and cranes, making it one of Maharashtra's most important birding destinations. The dam and the adjacent Dnyaneshwar Udyan garden are popular day-trip destinations from Aurangabad.
