Shri Ambadevi Temple

Ancient 13th century temple dedicated to Goddess Ambadevi, Amravati''s patron deity and namesake, revered during Navratri.

Shri Ambadevi Temple stands at the heart of Amravati and gives the city its name. Dating back to the 13th century, the shrine is dedicated to Goddess Ambadevi and is regarded by many devotees as a Shakti Peeth. A tunnel within the temple premises is linked to the legend of Krishna eloping with Rukmini before her wedding. Intricate carvings cover the sanctum, and the temple draws its largest crowds during Navratri, when elaborate decorations and rituals transform the courtyard into a lively centre of devotion.
