Malkhed Dam was built on the Kholad River near Chandur, originally to serve irrigation and water supply needs for the surrounding villages. Today it draws a steady stream of day trippers who come to rent boats, pack a lunch, and spend an afternoon by the water. A small park and a short toy train ride add extra appeal for families travelling with children. Sitting only a few kilometres outside Amravati, it works well as a relaxed half day trip away from the city's more structured attractions.
