Jaldapara National Park lies on the Torsa river at the foot of the eastern Himalayas in Alipurduar district of West Bengal. Its 216 sq km of tall grassland and riverine forest were first protected in 1941 and now hold one of the largest populations of greater one horned rhinoceros in India after Kaziranga, along with elephants, gaur, deer and many birds.

Most visitors stay near Madarihat, the main entry, and go on jeep or elephant safaris arranged through the West Bengal Forest Department. The Hollong forest lodge inside the park is a well known stay. Check current safari bookings and timings before you travel.

  • How to Reach: Madarihat, the main entry, is about 50 km from Alipurduar and about 125 km from Siliguri. Hasimara is the nearest railway station.
