Alibaug Magnetic Observatory

Alibaug Magnetic Observatory, built in 1904, holds the distinction of being one of only 13 such facilities in the world, and the only one on the Asian subcontinent, dedicated to recording geomagnetic data. The British era building itself is a rare surviving structure of its kind in the region. Winter tends to draw the steadiest stream of visitors curious about its scientific function.
