Taragarh, meaning Star Fort, sits at an elevation of about 870 metres on the Aravalli hills and is considered one of the oldest hill forts in India. The fort played a key role in Rajput and Mughal power struggles over centuries. Within its walls sits the dargah of Miran Sahib, a companion of Khwaja Moinuddin Chishti. The climb to the top is steep but the panoramic views over Ajmer and the plains beyond make it worthwhile. The massive cisterns and bastions still standing give a sense of how formidable this fort once was.
