Mayo College was founded in 1875 to educate the sons of Rajputana's princely families and is named after Lord Mayo, Viceroy of India from 1869 to 1872. Its white marble main building, designed by Major Charles Mant in the Indo-Saracenic style, is one of the best known colonial era buildings in Rajasthan. The college also has a museum with arms, sculpture and royal memorabilia. It is a working boarding school, so the campus is not open to casual visitors. Contact the college office in advance to ask about permission to see the main building or the museum.
