Tirupati Darshan 2026
Atop the seven sacred hills of the Eastern Ghats in Andhra Pradesh sits Tirumala, home to the Venkateswara Temple, one of the most visited religious sites on Earth. Every single day, between 50,000 and 1,00,000 devotees make the journey to seek the blessings of Balaji.
The Tirumala Venkateswara Temple, administered by the Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD), is open every day of the year, unlike seasonal pilgrimage shrines. But that doesn't mean you can walk in unprepared. Understanding the darshan system before you go will save you from hours of unnecessary waiting and ensure your visit is peaceful and meaningful.
This guide covers everything, darshan types, how to book online, Arjitha Sevas, the dress code, what not to carry, the best time to visit, and how to get to Tirumala from anywhere in India.
The Four Types of Darshan
Know before you go
TTD manages daily footfall through a tiered darshan system. Choosing the right one before you travel is the single most important planning decision.
Sarva Darshan
Free, no booking required. Open to every devotee; waiting times can range from 6 to 20+ hours during peak periods. Available roughly 18–20 hours per day.
SSD (Time Slotted)
Free with online booking. Time-slotted Sarva Darshan with a pre-booked slot and shorter waits than walk-in Sarva Darshan. Quota releases monthly on the official TTD portal.
Special Entry Darshan (Seeghra Darshan)
Rs 300 per person, online booking required. Dedicated fast-track queue, typically 2–4 hour wait versus 6–20+ hours for Sarva Darshan. Includes one Tirupati laddu prasadam. Recommended for most pilgrims.
SRIVANI VIP Darshan
Rs 10,000 donation, online booking required. VIP darshan with minimal waiting. Quota is very limited; book well in advance.
Our recommendation
- For most pilgrims: book the Rs 300 Special Entry Darshan online
- For senior citizens and differently-abled devotees: use the dedicated TTD online quota
- For rituals: book an Arjitha Seva in addition to darshan
- Avoid walk-in Sarva Darshan on weekends, Pournami, and Amavasya

Dates to avoid
- Pournami (full moon) and Amavasya (new moon)
- Brahmotsavam festival (usually September–October)
- National holidays, summer vacations (April–May), and Diwali/Dussehra weeks
How to Reach Tirupati and Tirumala
Getting There
Tirupati city is the base for reaching Tirumala. The temple is located 26 km from Tirupati on the Tirumala hills, accessible by road only. TTD operates a frequent bus service from Tirupati to Tirumala every 2 minutes during peak hours.
By air
Tirupati Airport (TIR) is 14 km from the city centre, with direct flights from Hyderabad, Chennai, Bengaluru, Delhi, and Mumbai. Alternatively, Chennai International Airport (~145 km) offers more frequent connections, taxis and buses run from Chennai to Tirupati in ~3 hours.
By train
Tirupati Railway Station is the main railhead, well connected to Chennai, Hyderabad, Bengaluru, Delhi, and Mumbai via express and superfast trains. Renigunta Junction (~20 km) lies on the Delhi–Trivandrum trunk route and has additional train options. From the station, TTD buses and autos run directly to the Alipiri bus stand for Tirumala.
By road
Tirupati is connected by road from all major Andhra Pradesh and Tamil Nadu cities. From Tirupati, TTD buses depart every 2 minutes to Tirumala via the ghat road (26 km, ~45 minutes). Private vehicles may also use the ghat road (toll applicable). The Alipiri foot path (9 km climb) is a traditional walking route for pilgrims who prefer the penance of trekking up.
