The Matsya Festival is held in Alwar every year by Rajasthan Tourism and the district administration. It takes its name from the ancient Matsya kingdom that once ruled this part of Rajasthan, and showcases the culture of the Mewat and Alwar region.

The 2026 festival is on 25 and 26 November. The programme usually opens with a colourful procession through the city, followed by folk music and dance, rural sports and competitions, craft and food stalls, heritage walks and evening cultural shows, with some events at Siliserh Lake and the Moosi Maharani ki Chhatri below the City Palace.

Alwar is about 160 km from Delhi and 150 km from Jaipur, and makes a good stop on the way to Sariska Tiger Reserve. Late November brings pleasant days and cool evenings, ideal for exploring Bala Quila and the old city.
